Troy, a thirty minute elevator speech would be ridiculous, who would say such a thing? Oh, right...that would be me :) Thanks for the catch. Updated above.

GL, I agree to a great extent. Thanks for adding how important the delivery is to a successful pitch. That pitch just has to get you through the door, then it's showtime...you better be prepared to back that enthusiasm up with a solid product or service. In the end, it's a good blend of both substance and style that wins business.

Since 1982, I have been involved in start ups and have raised dozens of rounds of financing.
The key thing in the elevator pitch is NOT the actual words one uses. You need to be an actor, almost, or be able to communicate passion and excitement.
No matter how well done the 'pitch,' it will fall on deaf ears if delivered poorly. So...my advice would be to work as much on the actual delivery. If the words cannot be delivered with passion...change the words.

Hi Jodee, I guess their server is having a bad case of the Mondays. It was working as late as last night so give it another go.

Hey, I'm always up for doing a little elevator pitch exchange. Like I said, I wish I had thought of it first. And interestingly enough, with my move to Austin, I'm completely revising this site and my business model so I'll be posting a new pitch somewhere here soon. As they say...you show me yours and I'll show you mine :)

Chris: I tried to click on your link and it didn't work - I'd love to try out my pitch on someone and that looked like a great place to start. Since I couldn't list it there, would you be willing to start a little exchange here? I think your readers would provide great feedback for each other on this topic!
